General Baggage Conditions

We would like to share with you the baggage regulations established by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and Copa Airlines. Please read them and verify the weight and size of your baggage.

Size and weight limits for carry-on baggage:

*In addition to the carry-on piece of baggage, Copa Airlines allows passengers traveling in Business Class or Main Cabin to carry on an additional personal item. The following articles are considered additional personal items:


  • Hand bags
  • Coats or jackets
  • Umbrellas
  • Cameras or binoculars
  • Books or magazines
  • Children's bags (diaper bags)
  • Children care items, such as:

    • Small collapsible stroller for babies (large strollers can be checked in at the Copa Airlines check-in counters to be transported as luggage in the cargo hold of the airplane)
    • Child safety seats


  • Laptop computers
  • Small items for personal entertainment
  • Video game consoles (eg. Playstation®, X-box® or Nintendo®)
  • DVD players and cassette type video cameras (they must be removed from their cases and passed through the x-ray scanner before boarding)
  • Portable breathing devices (they must be removed from their cases and passed through the x-ray scanner before boarding)

Copa Airlines allows for the storage, handling, and transportation of special aid devices for passengers with special needs both in the Business Class cabin and in the main cabin, as long as the passenger depends on them. These aid devices may include, although are not limited to, the following:


Wheel chairs and their batteries (in the case that they are used)
Walking canes
Crutches
Walkers
Cushions
Orthopedic devices
Prosthesis

  • Each piece can measure up to 62 combined linear inches (157 cm) (height + length + width).
  • Pieces with a combined linear measurement between 63 inches (159 cm) and 107 inches (272 cm) are considered excess baggage
  • Pieces whose combined linear measurements exceed 107 inches (272 cm) will not be accepted as baggage and must be transported as cargo

  • Pieces weighing between 51 and 99 lb (24 - 45 kg) will be considered excess baggage

Individual pieces that weigh more than 99 lbs (45 kg) will not be accepted as baggage and must be transported as cargo.

Pieces considered excess baggage cannot be declared priority baggage.

 

 

Free baggage allowance policies for OnePass Elite, Silver, Gold and Platinum members
OnePass Elite, Silver, Gold and Platinum members have a new free baggage allowance policies for Business Class and for OnePass Silver, Gold, and Platinum Elite members. These changes take effect starting on December 7, 2009.

Please see below for more information on the new policy:


  • OnePass Silver Elite members may check up to two (2) pieces of baggage, each weighing a maximum of 70 lbs (32 kg), without incurring additional fees

 

 

 

 

 

  • OnePass Platinum and Gold Elite members may check up to three (3) pieces of baggage, each weighing a maximum of 70 lbs (32 kg), without incurring additional fees.

 

 

  • The combined linear dimensions requirement has not changed. In other words, each piece may have a maximum size of 62 linear inches (157 cm; length + width + height).
  • Pieces measuring between 63 (160 cm) and 107 (272 cm) linear inches will be considered excess baggage
  • Please note that pieces whose combined dimensions exceed 107 linear inches (272 cm) will only be accepted for transport as cargo

All baggage exceeding maximum weight, size dimensions or piece limitations, will be transported subject to space availability.

One additional piece or laminated box over the baggage allowance will be accepted with payment of an excess baggage fee (except for travel to cities in Brazil, where only the baggage allowance is applied).

During the embargo periods, Copa Airlines will not transport live animals as checked baggage in cargo to or from the cities mentioned above. During the months of July, August, December and January, the following are not permitted: live animals transported as checked baggage or perishable food from any city.

It is important that passengers whose travel originates in these cities be informed about the respective baggage embargo periods.
