Children traveling alone

Copa Airlines counts with the attendant service that will guarantee that from the moment the minor arrives at the counter in the airport, the child will be attended by a passenger service agent until received at their final destination.

The following rules apply

Under 5
They should be accompanied by a relative, guardian or designated travel companion who is at least 18 years of age.
Between 5 - 7

They may travel alone on direct flights or flight involving intermediate stops; which is to say, they may only travel on flights, which do not involve a change of aircraft.

They are considered unaccompanied minors and charges for the use of the unaccompanied minor service will apply.
Between 8-14

They may travel alone on direct flights and connecting flights operated by the same airline.

They are considered unaccompanied minors and charges for the use of the unaccompanied minor service will apply.
Between 15-17

May travel alone on flights with the same airline or interline.

If the minor's itinerary is impacted by any irregular operations, the parents or legal guardians will be contacted in order to obtain authorization with respect to any changes made to the itinerary.

  • A minor may not be the guardian of another minor, unless it is proved that is the father.
  • Reservations for minors between 5 – 14 will not be accepted if their itinerary includes a flight that is the last flight of the day for that route, it is the only flight that day.
  • Copa Airlines will not be responsible for the contents of the minor's carry-on bags or for any items of value carried by the minor.
  • Please also be aware that unaccompanied minors are not allowed to fly with pets.
  • Children should not travel with carry-on luggage that they cannot take care of.
  • All children under medical treatment must travel accompanied by an adult.
  • When the child arrives at its destination, the person to receive the child must show documentation that identifies them as the person named on the form that is attached to the ticket holder of the child.
  • Copa Airlines neither offers nor accepts unaccompanied minors connecting to/from another airline.

Unaccompanied minor service

The unaccompanied minor service does not include service during the flight itself. The companion service starts at the check-in desk, includes the transfer of the minor through security and immigration for departure to the boarding gate and seating in the plane. Upon arrival at the final destination, the minor is accompanied from the plane through immigration and customs, at which point the minor is handed over to the responsible adult.


The responsible adult must submit the request for the service for the minor without a companion to the airline at least 48 hours before travel or at the time of the reservation. The airline is not responsible for providing the special services required in the absence of a request under these provisions.

Charges

International flights


If one or more minors from the same family travel without companions, only one charge is applied, corresponding to the charge for one minor only in accordance with the provisions of the following table. There is a charge for the service for each trip segment. On international flights the service charges are:

Copa Airlines Colombia domestic flights


A charge of COP30,000 will be collected for each portion or travel segment on domestic flight itineraries. This payment must be made at the airport at the time of check-in.

If the minor's reservation has domestic flights with international connections, the unaccompanied minor service charge for international flights will be applied, as set forth in the table above.

Special information required at time of booking of the child

  • The name and relationship of the person that will lead the child to the airport.
  • The telephone number and residence address of such person.
  • The name and relationship of the person to receive the child.
  • The telephone number and residence and office address of such person.
