Changes made to your ticket's itinerary are subject to penalties and fees depending on the difference between the original rate and the desired rate.

16. How long does a ticket remain valid if I do not use it?

Any ticket issued by Copa Airlines will remain valid for transportation for one year after the date the ticket was issued.

The issue date for the ticket is the date on which payment was made, using either cash or a credit card, or the receipt date stated on the ticket for which payment was received using an acceptable form of payment.

If a ticket for a published fare that has not been used is completely re-issued, the new ticket will be valid for a year from the date on which the ticket was re-issued.

When the ticket includes a special trip or fare that is valid for less than one year, the shorter of the periods will apply only to the transportation associated with the special trip or fare. When the fare limits transportation to specific parts of the day, week, month or year, the ticket will only be valid during those specified periods.

17. Can I change my current flight to another one on the same day?

Copa Airlines allows you to change from one flight to another on the same day for the same route, if you request the change between 24 to 3 hours prior to the flight departure. The reason for this is that taxes vary depending on the portal where the ticket is purchased, and if you buy your ticket from a portal in a country other than that from which your flight is departing, when you depart you will be charged at the airport for taxes that were not included with your purchase.

If your country's portal is not on copaair.com, choose the portal "Other countries."

My trips – Payment for reservations

34. Do I have to pay for the reservation before I can view it using My trips?

It is only necessary to view reservations made through travel agencies, sales offices or through our Reservation Center.

Reservations created online at copaair.com can be viewed using My trips without having paid for them yet, as long as they are kept active.

35. When I access My Trips, what do the statuses “Saved” and “Confirmed” that appear with my reservation information mean?

These tell you what phase of the reservation process you are at with respect to the payment process and/or the issuing of the ticket (e-ticket).

Depending on the status you see on your reservation, certain functions in My trips are disabled, as explained below:

a. Saved:

This means that your reservation is still active but has not been purchased. You may print your itinerary, export it to your electronic planner or reserve seats.

However, the options for requesting special food and services remain disabled until after you have completed the purchase.

b. Confirmed:

This status appears for any of the following reasons:

1. Your reservation has been purchased but your ticket (e-ticket) has not been issued yet. You may make use of all of the My Trips functions, except for the option to "See receipt," which will remain disabled until your ticket has been issued. Tickets are issued in approximately 5 minutes, but in rare cases may take up to 6 hours. If you need help, please contact our Reservation Center, available 24 hours a day.

2. Your reservation has already been paid for and your ticket issued. You may now make use of all the My Trips functions.

36. Why doesn't the link "See receipt" appear when I log in to My trips?

This means that the status of your reservation is either “Saved” or “Confirmed” and your ticket (e-ticket) has not been issued yet.

If your reservation status is listed as “Saved”, you must complete the purchase in order to view your receipt.

If the reservation has already been paid for and the status is listed as “Confirmed”, you must wait approximately 2 to 5 minutes for the system to issue your ticket (e-ticket). On rare occasions this process may take up to 6 hours.

If you need help, please contact our Reservation Center, available 24 hours a day.

37. Why doesn't the “Pay” button appear when I log in to My trips?

This occurs when any modifications, like changing the flight date or time, or changing the passenger names, are made to a reservation created on copaair.com. Under these circumstances you should contact our Reservation Center to complete the purchase.

My trips – Help

38. Why can't I access My trips to view my reservation?

This could occur for any one of the following reasons:

  • You are trying to log in with your OnePass number and not your reservation code.

  • Your reservation includes additional information that is too long (more than one line in the OSI fields).

To find out whether your reservation has any of these problems, you may contact our Reservation Center, available 24 hours a day.

No. When you select a seat using My trips, you are reserving a space on the flight even through you are not yet checked in.

To confirm your seats, you can either check in 24 hours before your flight using our online Web Check-In service or check in at the airport on the day of your flight. Seats that are reserved using My trips will be saved until 1 hour prior to the flight departure.

41. Why doesn't my child appear on the seat map passenger list?

This occurs when any of the passengers on the reservation have been identified as a child who is less than 2 years old.

Infants do not occupy seats on the airplane and are, therefore, not shown on the seat map passenger list.

42. Why does My trips occasionally not give me the option to request special food?

This could occur for any one of the following reasons:

  • Your reservation has not been paid for or a ticket (e-ticket) has not been issued yet.

Refunds

43. Can I request a ticket refund?

Tickets may or may not be refundable, depending on the rate rules applicable to the tickets you purchased. Rate rules specify whether the ticket is refundable or not, as well as the amounts that should be discounted. If your ticket is refundable, you will be deducted the penalty applicable to said rate.

If the ticket is non refundable in cash, you may use it as payment for a new ticket. In case you do not use it, you will only get a refund for the applicable fees (taxes and airport fees), except for not refundable taxes.

If your ticket hasn't been used, we will refund the total amount paid, minus:

  • The penalty specified by the rate rule.
  • Non-refundable taxes (if they exist).

If any part of the ticket has been already used, we will refund the total amount paid, minus:

  • The rates applicable to the segments of the trip used.
  • The penalty specified by the rate rule.
  • Airport fees for the segments already used.
  • Sales taxes for the rate already used. If sales tax is not refundable, it will be deducted in full

44. Who can receive the refund?

The refund is granted to the person who paid for the ticket after providing a satisfactory proof of purchase (invoice or credit card).

In the event of the death of a customer, the refund will be granted to an immediate family member upon presentation of death certificate. In cases of illness, you must provide a letter from a doctor on letterhead stating that travel is contraindicated. If the request is made for death or illness of an immediate family member, the letter must include the family member's name and relationship with the customer. The spouse, children (including adopted ones), parents and brother(s) or sister(s) account for immediate family.

45. When can I request a ticket refund?

The refund must be requested during the validity of the ticket. After the expiration date, you cannot request the refund. Check the validity of your ticket with our Reservations Center.

46. Where should I request the refund?

You should go to the place where you purchased the ticket.

  • If you purchased the ticket at a travel agency, you should go there to request the refund.
  • If the purchase was made at a Copa Airlines Sales Office, you should go to that office.
  • If you purchased your ticket at copaair.com or through our Reservations Center, you should request your refund via email to reembolso@copaair.com.

Tickets can only be refunded in the country where the sale was made.

The refund will be granted in the same form of payment and currency as the purchase.

47. How should I request the refund of tickets purchased at copaair.com or at the Reservation Center?

  1. Download and fill the refund form available at the following link.
  2. Send the completed form to: reembolso@copaair.com.

For tickets purchased at copaair.com, if the refund is requested within 24 hours of the purchase, this refund will be made with no penalty. This also applies for tickets reserved at copaair.com and paid through our Reservations Center or our Sales Offices.

48. How long will it take to complete the refund?

The time taken to pay a refund depends on the form of payment used to purchase the ticket:

  • If the ticket was purchased with a credit card: The refund will be shown in one of the next two credit card account statements as from the refund request. This will depend on the billing cycle of your credit card company.
  • If the ticket was purchased in cash: The refund will be granted to customer immediately.
  • If the ticket was purchased with a check: The ticket will be refunded via check and granted within 10 business days. If you request the refund after 30 days after the ticket was issued, you will have the option to request the refund in cash, in which case the refund will be immediate.

49. Can I ask for the return of penalties, taxes or other charges duplicated by mistake?

In cases in which for any reason you have been charged a penalty or tax twice, you will be able to request the return upon providing proof indicating penalty payments.

50. What is Copa Airlines' refund policy in the event of the aircraft having mechanical problems or other inconveniences caused by the airline?

In cases in which Copa Airlines is responsible for the disruption of a trip, due to attributable causes, for example, mechanical failure of the aircraft, maintenance, logistic problems with equipment, among others, you may request a full or partial refund of the ticket, as applicable. This kind of refund is called involuntary.

When a refund is involuntary, you can request the refund of a ticket with a rate rule that specifies it is not refundable. In these cases, the handling charge is not applied.
