PANAMA, July 27, 2010 - The Ministry of Education (MEDUCA) and Copa Airlines have signed the first of several agreements involving contributions to improve the facilities and infrastructure of schools throughout the country.

The signing of the agreement by the Minister of Education Lucy Molinar and the CEO of Copa Airlines Pedro Heilbron took place during a ceremony marking the airline's donation of 30 air conditioners to the beneficiary, the Melchor Lasso de la Vega School of Arts and Trades.

"The development of the school's programs and projects will benefit greatly from this alliance in that it will enable us to improve classroom conditions in the marine sciences program, graphic arts, physical education, electronics lab, library and psychology counselor, among others," said Minister of Education Molinar.  "We want to thank Copa Airlines for helping Panamanian youth."

"The development and improvement of our country is not solely the job of the government," Heilbron said. "At Copa Airlines we realize that private citizens, the government and business must work together for our children and youth, and for the strengthening of the educational system in our country."

The donation to the Melchor Lasso de la Vega Arts and Trades School is part of Copa's Corporate Social Responsibility commitment, which is based on three pillars:  Children, Education and the Environment.

In the Education arena, the company develops programs through its Fundación Despega con Copa Airlines (Take Off with Copa Airlines), designed to reinforce the teaching-learning process in schools in Panama and six other countries in Latin America.
