Unforgettable Journey 2011

100 Panamanian children flew to the World of Copa Airlines thanks to the Unforgettable Journey initiative which is traditionally organized by the airline

  • For the eighteenth year, Copa Airlines celebrates its Corporate Social Responsibility initiative thanks to which approximately 1,800 Panamanian children dreams have already been fulfilled.
  • Copa Airlines, company volunteers, suppliers and clients of the airline come together for this initiative to benefit the Panamanian children.

Unforgettable Journey 2011

Panama City, Panama - December 6 ,  2011 -- For many children, traveling on a plane used to be an unattainable dream; however, today 100 Panamanian smiling children have boarded a Copa Airlines plane and have been able to take part in a magical day, as part of the Unforgettable Journey initiative in 2011 organized by the airline for the eighteenth consecutive year.

This year 100 children from IPHE, the Escuela Emperatriz Taboada, the Miguel Febres Cordero school in Nuevo Tocumen, the Mañanitas school and Fanlyc have participated in this great celebration, as well a certain number of children of employees for their outstanding performance at the company and the poster child from the 2011 Telethon.

The goal of this initiative is to contribute to the social well-being of the communities in which the airline operates, to provide these children with the joy of traveling on a plane and to celebrate with them the Christmas dream with a splendid party in the hangar with Christmas presents and motifs.

"It gives all of us joy to be able to provide the children with a special day such as this one, and we are very proud of the commitment and the enthusiasm that both Copa Airline supporters and the clients and suppliers are involved in by providing their support and their time, year after year, to make this travel possible," pointed out Ivette Franco, Legal Representation Director for Copa Airlines and activity coordinator.

"The Unforgettable Journey initiative has become the symbol for our Corporate Social Responsibility policy and for this reason we have extended it to other countries where we operate.  This year we are also going to celebrate in Miami for the first time on December 12 for the benefit of the children of the Fundación Amigos for Kids", added Franco.

The activity started with a breakfast and delivery of school backpacks to the children at the Copa Airlines offices in Costa del Este from which they transferred to the International Airport in Tocumen and then boarded a Copa Airlines plane, which took them on a flight of approximately 45 minutes.   The flight destination was The World of Copa Airlines, where the children were given a splendid party and presents from Santa and Mrs. Claus.

Other Copa Airlines destinations that have been the setting of the Unforgettable Journey in the past are: Barranquilla, Nicaragua, Bogotá, Buenos Aires, Caracas, Guatemala, El Salvador, Managua, Rio de Janeiro, Santo Domingo, and San José.

The Corporate Social Responsibility Program of Copa Airlines receives supoprt through the Fundación Despega with Copa Airlines, focusing on its main pillars: children, education and environmental preservation.
