Terms and Conditions – Upgrades to Business Class

Copa Airlines and Copa Airlines Colombia (Copa Airlines) offer you the chance to enjoy the best travel experience by upgrading to Business Class.

The following terms and conditions (“terms and conditions”) will apply to the purchase (“purchase”) made by you (“the passenger”), from Copa Airlines, to upgrade from the Economy Class service that was originally purchased for travel on Copa Airlines to Business Class (“upgrade”). The purchase of this upgrade is valid only for flights operated by Copa Airlines and/or Copa Airlines Colombia where there is space available in Business Class. It is not valid on code-share flights or flights operated by other airlines.

Description of the service:

Copa Airlines offers passengers the chance to enjoy the best travel experience by upgrading to Business Class. Copa Airlines invites passengers to submit a bid for the price they would be willing to pay to purchase an upgrade. If you, the passenger, are interested, you will click on the link provided and be redirected to the website, in order to opt in to purchasing an upgrade using the purchase process for the upgrade program. During the purchase process, you will decide how much you are willing to pay for the upgrade, and for which segments of the trip you would like to submit a bid (i.e., for the outbound trip, the return trip, or both). Between 12 and 48 hours prior to the departure of your flight, you will receive an e-mail indicating whether or not you received the upgrade. If you received the upgrade, your credit card will be charged for the amount of your bid, plus any applicable taxes. If you did not receive the upgrade, you will travel on your original reservation.

If you are a ConnectMiles PreferMember with Silver status and would like to increase your chances of receiving an upgrade to Business Class, you can participate in the program via our website or invitation e-mails. Bids submitted by PreferMembers with Silver status will have priority over bids submitted by other participants in the program.

If you see the button with the “Instant Upgrade” option, this means that an upgrade to Business Class is available for your flight. You can choose this option and pay the specified amount to purchase a confirmed upgrade, instead of submitting a bid. Your upgrade will be confirmed and charged to your credit card within 24 hours. This purchase is subject to availability and will be confirmed once your credit card is charged and you receive the confirmation e-mail.

Conditions of sale:

  • The flight must have space available in Business Class.
  • You must have purchased an Economy Class plane ticket.
  • You may receive an upgrade for your original itinerary. If you change your itinerary, you will need to cancel any bids submitted for your original itinerary and bid again for your new itinerary. To be eligible for an upgrade, you must first pay for any changes to your itinerary; otherwise, your bid will not be accepted.
  • To submit a bid, you must not be a ConnectMiles PreferMember with Gold, Platinum, or Presidential status traveling on an individual reservation. ConnectMiles PreferMembers traveling on an individual reservation may bid for an upgrade only if their ticket was purchased using miles.
  • Passengers who purchased their ticket using miles may bid to purchase an upgrade.
  • Upgrades for passengers who are minors may be purchased by their parents and/or the adult responsible for them.
  • Your upgrade bid will apply only to the flight segment specified in the e-mail inviting you to choose an upgrade.
  • Each upgrade is individual and non-transferable.

General terms and conditions:

  1. If your reservation includes multiple passengers, you may purchase an upgrade for all passengers on the reservation, and your purchase will be honored subject to the space available in the cabin. If you would like to submit a bid for some but not all of the passengers on your reservation, please call our Reservation Center for assistance. In either case, the purchase price that is accepted will be per passenger, on an individual basis.
  2. The following passengers may not purchase an upgrade:
    • Passengers traveling with animals.
    • Passengers traveling on tickets that were issued free of charge, for which the passenger paid only taxes and/or airport fees (i.e., tickets associated with donations and sponsorships, non-revenue tickets, employee passes, and others).
    • Passengers with Silver status in the ConnectMiles program who will be traveling on a flight segment included in the purchase of a fare type Y, B, or M.
  3. If you purchase an upgrade to Business Class, you will be entitled to enjoy the following services and benefits:
    • Check-in at the Business Class counter.
    • Priority boarding and priority baggage handling.
    • Access to Copa Club at the airport, as well as access to United Club and participating Star Alliance®-affiliated airport clubs (at airports offering these clubs, subject to club capacity).
    • Business Class seats and in-flight service.
    • Business Class baggage allowance during the segment for which you received an upgrade.
  4. Before your flight, Copa Airlines will determine the space available in Business Class and will evaluate your bid between 12 and 48 hours prior to the departure of the flight. You will receive an e-mail at the e-mail address you provided, notifying you whether you received the upgrade. If your upgrade to a higher class of service is confirmed, the credit card that you used to submit your bid will be charged. The upgrade must be paid for using a single credit card; multiple cards may not be used. The price that you paid for the upgrade to a higher class of service will not be disclosed; this information is strictly confidential.
  5. If you purchase an upgrade, the conditions of your original ticket will remain in effect following the upgrade, including conditions with respect to minimum and maximum stays, cancellations, penalties, changes, etc. You will earn ConnectMiles miles based on your original class of service, not the class of service to which you upgraded.
  6. If you requested any special meals when purchasing your original ticket, Copa Airlines will make every effort to fulfill your request.
  7. If you purchase an upgrade, Copa Airlines cannot guarantee a specific seat assignment in Business Class. Your seat assignment will depend on space availability.
  8. The total price that you pay for the upgrade includes taxes and fees.
  9. If you would like to cancel your upgrade to a higher class of service or change your bid, you may do so up to 48 hours prior to the departure of the flight. After this time, changing or canceling an upgrade will not be permitted. This provision does not apply if you purchase an Instant Upgrade, since Instant Upgrades are confirmed within 24 hours.
  10. To cancel or change your bid, please use the link provided in the confirmation e-mail that you will receive.
  11. If you make voluntary changes (such as a date change, flight change, route change, or other changes), or if you miss your flight for reasons not attributable to Copa Airlines (such as weather, strikes, or other reasons), you will not receive a refund. Once your upgrade bid has been accepted, it is non-refundable.
  12. The amount paid for your upgrade is non-refundable.
  13. In the event that Copa Airlines cancels a flight for reasons attributable to the airline, Copa will make every effort to seat you in Business Class on another flight. If there is no space available on another flight, the amount that you paid for the upgrade will be refunded. To request a refund for this reason, please e-mail customerservice@copaair.com.
  14. If you cannot be seated in Business Class for reasons attributable to Copa Airlines, you will be seated in the class of service for which you originally purchased a ticket, and the amount that you paid for the upgrade will be refunded. To request a refund for this reason, please e-mail customerservice@copaair.com.
  15. If you change, cancel, or miss your flight for reasons of force majeure (the death of a family member or inability to travel for health reasons), Copa Airlines will refund the fee paid for your upgrade. The upgrade may not be assigned and/or transferred to another flight or to another passenger. To request a refund for this reason, please e-mail customerservice@copaair.com.
  16. Copa Airlines reserves the right to amend the foregoing terms and conditions at any time at its sole discretion.
  17. By purchasing this upgrade, you accept all the terms and conditions of the upgrade program.

Airport product

Description of the service:

Copa Airlines offers passengers traveling in Economy Class the chance to enjoy the best travel experience by upgrading to Business Class during check-in on the day of their flight.

Conditions of sale:

  • The flight must have space available in Business Class.
  • This product is available only at the airport in Panama prior to departure on the day of the flight.
  • Only single-passenger reservations are eligible. To qualify for this product, reservations that include more than one passenger must be separated.
    • This includes passengers traveling with an infant.
  • Passengers may purchase an upgrade for the next segment of their trip only.
  • Accepted forms of payment include cash and credit cards.
  • Miles may not be used as a form of payment when purchasing this product.
  • ConnectMiles PreferMembers are not eligible, since these upgrades have lower priority than the courtesy upgrades offered by the ConnectMiles program.
  • Passengers traveling with animals are not eligible.
  • This product is not available on all routes and flights in Copa’s network.
  • Passengers whose ticket was issued by another airline are not eligible.
  • The price of the upgrade is based on the route and the fare type purchased by the passenger. Prices vary according to availability and flight dates.

General terms and conditions:

  1. Upgrade purchases do not earn miles.
  2. The conditions of the ticket originally purchased remain in effect. Such conditions include change fees or cancellation fees, minimum and maximum stays, etc.
  3. If you purchase an upgrade to Business Class, you will be entitled to enjoy the following services and benefits:
    • Priority boarding and priority baggage handling.
    • Access to Copa Club at the airport, as well as access to United Club and participating Star Alliance®-affiliated airport clubs (at airports offering these clubs, subject to club capacity).
    • Business Class baggage allowance during the segment for which you received an upgrade. This benefit applies only if the upgrade was purchased at the check-in counter.
  4. Business Class meal service is not guaranteed for upgrades purchased at the airport.
