Panama City, June 12, 2018
Copa Airlines, a subsidiary of Copa Holdings, S.A. {NYSE: CPA} and member of Star Alliance global airline network, has just reopened its Operations Control Center, the area in charge of planning, controlling and monitoring the 350 daily flights that the airline operates in 80 destinations in the 32 countries in North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean. The purpose of this expansion was to optimize response abilities to monitor all processes and to guarantee business continuity under any operational context.
"We're focused on continuously investing innovation to provide a World Class service to all our passengers. To achieve operational quality and excellence, there are many challenges to be faced, with safety and flight itinerary compliance the top priorities. For this reason, the upgrades in our Control Center are crucial to guarantee the best service," explained Bolivar Dominguez, Copa Airlines' Flight Operations VP.
Copa Airlines' Operations Control Center has state-of-the-art technology for monitoring each of the flights operated by the airline; from their takeoff at the airport, to their arrival at their destination. From this place, every airplane on the air is monitored, along with their weight, flight time, fuel level, departure time, and best route to arrive to destination. Also the airline also designates airplanes for each route and performs maintenance assistance. This area provides support for the teams at each one of the airports in 81 destinations, ensuring itinerary compliance.
"To us, it is crucial for our personnel to have everything they need to perform their duties and to feel comfortable in their positions," added Dominguez. The expansion of this area allowed us to add a more robust technological backup infrastructure, which enhances our resiliency abilities. We also have more versatile, ergonomic, modern furniture, and facilities aimed to improve team work and collaboration 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, for over 70 employees whose effort is key to control and monitor the day-to-day operation of the airline.
Copa Airlines currently offers 350 daily flights through the Hub of the Americas, which was founded in 1992 and is located at the International Airport of Tocumen. Thanks to Copa's extensive route network, Tocumen is considered the airport with most international destinations in Latin America. Also, Copa was acknowledged as “Latin Americas' most on-time airline” for the past five years by FlightStats, and as the “World's fourth most on-time airline” and “Latin America's most on time airline” by Official Airline Guide of London.
