For the seventh year in a row, Copa Airlines is supporting Panama’s National Association for Chemotherapy Patients with a donation of $50,000. The donated funds were raised during the 7th Copa Tech Ops Golf Tournament, which was attended by Copa’s partner companies and suppliers (most of them from outside of Panama). The tournament brought them together with the shared goal of raising funds to enhance the scope, impact, and sustainability of Copa Airlines’ public-service initiatives in Panama.
Copa Airlines’ generous donation will be used to help around 600 patients per year at Panama’s National Cancer Institute, as well as their family members, by helping them to afford food and basic necessities. The donation is just one of the ways that Copa is contributing to a better quality of life for patients with advanced cancer, who are unable to work due to their illness.
Copa Airlines organizes the Copa Tech Ops Golf Tournament every year in order to raise funds for cancer patients at the National Cancer Institute, through the National Association for Chemotherapy Patients. “Our philosophy centers on raising awareness among those who work for Copa, or who are part of our value chain, about the importance of helping anyone in need,” said Ahmad Zamany, Copa Airlines’ Vice President of Technical Operations. “That’s why we organize this tournament every year, so that all of us, working together, can make it possible for the patients and their family members to have a little peace of mind.”
Zamany added, “This donation reflects our continuing commitment to the National Association for Chemotherapy Patients, an organization that we have supported since 2012, driven by our desire to provide a better quality of life for patients and their family members.”
“For patients of limited means who are undergoing chemotherapy, this donation is a blessing, because it helps to improve their quality of life,” said Alicia Luaces, president of the National Association for Chemotherapy Patients. “The donations that we have received from Copa Airlines over the past seven years have played an important part in helping our patients keep up their fight against cancer, especially by enabling them to remain at the institute.”
In addition to donating funds, volunteers from Copa Airlines were also able to spend time with patients while distributing basic necessities, which will allow the patients to be more comfortable while undergoing treatment at the institute. The volunteers also took part in a “beauty day” to help patients feel better by looking their best.
As a socially responsible company, Copa Airlines is deeply committed to the well-being of every Panamanian community, and to the well-being of cancer patients in particular. As part of this commitment, Copa Airlines emphasizes the importance of encouraging healthy lifestyles.
