Service dog
An animal that has been trained to provide
assistance or perform a task for a person with
a disability.
- Guide a blind person
- Alert the owner of possible seizures
- Alert the owner of high or low sugar

Emotional support dog
An animal necessary for the emotional well-being
of the passenger during the flight or at his
destination and who may or may not be trained
for that role.
- They provide comfort with their presence
- They reduce stress, anxiety, depression
- It gives tranquility to its owner.
- Copa Airlines will only accept service dogs.
- Emotional support dogs will only be accepted on routes where they are recognized in the country's regulations: to or from Brazil, Canada, Colombia and Mexico.
Service and emotional support animal transportation terms and conditions
- Animals may not sit in the seats:
- The dog must sit on the floor in front of your assigned seat. It may not take up space in the aisles. The dog may sit on your lap, if it is no larger than an infant.
- If the dog is too big to fit at your feet, Copa Airlines will assigned a seat with additional space, if possible. If this is not possible, you may purchase an extra seat in order to have additional floor space to accommodate the dog in front of or next to your seat, but not on the seats.
- Seating at the emergency exit is not allowed.
- The dog must remain with you at all times.
- Dogs may be denied transportation on board:
- If has a bad smell, bad behavior such as barking, growling, attacking other passengers or not being able to control its needs.
- If does not comply with the required documentation of the country of origin and destination. The passenger is responsible for any costs associated with reservation changes.
Nota: If you have a connection with another airline, you should contact them directly to find out their service and emotional support animals transportation terms and conditions.
Numbers of dogs allowed
- Only one (1) dog per passenger is accepted*.
Age required
- Old enough to have been trained and respond to the directions of the owner.
Documentation
- Identification showing that the dog is a service animal.
- Valid proof of vaccination and a certificate of good health.
- Any documentation necessary for entry to the destination country.
- Service and emotional support dog transportation form:
- If you are traveling to/from the United States, you must complete the DOT Service Animal Transportation Form and bring two copies to the airport on the day of departure.
- If you are traveling to/from other destinations, you must complete the Form for Transportation of Service and Emotional Support Dogs and bring two copies to the airport on the day of departure.
As of February 1, 2021, transportation of emotional support dogs will only be accepted on routes where they are recognized in the country's regulations: to or from Brazil, Canada, Colombia and Mexico. If you are traveling on other routes, you can request our pet cabin service or Copa Mascotas.
Numbers of dogs allowed
- Only one (1) dog per passenger is accepted.
- Passengers with tickets purchased before February 1, 2021, with travel dates up to February 28, 2021, only two (2) emotional support dogs are accepted per flight*. Be sure to make a reservation for your dog at least 48 hours before your flight departure or at the time of purchase through our Sales Offices or Reservation Center.
Age required
- The dog must be at least 6 months old.
Documentation
- A medical document issued by psychiatrist, certifying that you have a mental or emotional disability and need an emotional support animal while traveling or at the final destination. The medical document must meet the following criteria:
- The date of issue must be less than one year prior to the date of departure of the flight.
- The certificate must be signed and stamped by the medical professional.
- Must include the following information about his or her license: date of issue, the state or jurisdiction, and the type of license.
- The document must be legible.
- Valid proof of vaccination and a certificate of good health.
- Any documentation necessary for entry to the destination country.
- Complete the Terms and Conditions form for transportation of service and emotional support dogs and bring two copies to the airport on the day of departure.
