Children from the Hogar de Malambo (Malambo Home), which was the first foundation to take part in this initiative, will again fill a Copa Airlines airplane with smiles and excitement, just as they did during the first trip. Also joining them will be a group of children from the Fundación Amigos del Niño con Leucemia y Cáncer (Friends of Children with Leukemia and Cancer Foundation) (FANLYC) and the poster child of the 2013 telethon.
Copa Airlines began this trip in 1993 as a way of contributing to the social well-being of the communities where the airline operates. The initiative, which has continued ever since, has the full support of the employees of the airline, which again this year is giving Panamanian children the joy of flying in an airplane and celebrating the excitement of Christmas.
“All of us at Copa Airlines are filled with excitement to give the children an unforgettable experience and make their dream of flying in an airplane for the first time come true, giving them a moment of hope and happiness in the days before Christmas. It has been twenty years since we first set off on this great adventure, and we feel proud that this trip has become a tradition for Copa Airlines employees, as well as for our customers and suppliers,” said the CEO of Copa Airlines, Pedro Heilbron.
The Director of Legal Counsel at Copa Airlines, Ivette Franco, who also coordinates the trip, says that the Viaje Inolvidable (Unforgettable Trip) “is a moment that all of us who work at Copa really look forward to all year long. In addition to doing it in Panama, we have extended it to other cities that we serve, and it is an initiative that has been received with a great deal of enthusiasm, just as it has in our country. This trip will also be done in Porto Alegre, Brazil.”
The morning of the “Viaje Inolvidable” (Unforgettable Trip) began with a breakfast at the Copa Airlines corporate offices, in Costa del Este. From there, the children went to the International Airport in Tocumen, where they were given school backpacks, and then they boarded the airplane that took them on a plane trip of approximately one hour.
The final destination of this unforgettable flight was Copa Airlines´ Magic World, where the children were feted with a beautiful holiday party, with gifts handed out by Santa Claus and Mrs. Claus.
Copa Airlines´ Corporate Social Responsibility Program is supported by the Fundación Despega con Copa Airlines (Take Off with Copa Airlines Foundation), which focuses on key priorities: childhood, education, and environmental conservation. In addition to the Viaje Inolvidable (Unforgettable Trip) in Panama and, on December 12, in Porto Alegre, Brazil, other Copa destinations have also been the site of past trips: Barranquilla and Bogota, Colombia; Managua, Nicaragua; Buenos Aires, Argentina; Caracas, Venezuela; Guatemala City, Guatemala; San Salvador, El Salvador; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; and San José, Costa Rica.
